California is a bodaciously big place. Sometimes it just doesn’t pay to battle the traffic in the Golden State. Air travel is far, far preferable. To that end Southwest is offering deep discount airfares on several key intrastate routes. The price tag? $49.
This discount airfare has to be booked and bought by March 22, and you’ll have to do a 14-day advance purchase. Travel from March 27 through August 24, the end of Southwest Airlines’ current schedule.
This discount airfare is one-way, and doesn’t include taxes or fees. The good part is that there is no need for a round-trip purchase. Not on Southwest. You can’t get this deal anywhere else but the airline’s proprietary Web site.

Travelers in search of great deals have come to search for a type of deep discount airfare served up on weekends.
Continental Airlines is one of the prime practitioners, offering round-trip passage for as low as $99.
Book and buy by 11:59pm on Friday (March 2). Then, travel outbound on Saturday, March 3, and return either Monday or Tuesday (March 5 or 6).
The discount airfares we’re about to quote are available via Continental.com only. That’s one of the reasons why the carrier can offer such great rates. The more reservations it can drive to its Web site, the lower its costs.
