Delta renders SkyMiles redemption more flexible

When booking a travel award, you can now combine Coach, First Class/BusinessElite®, SkySaver and SkyChoice travel on one ticket and save thousands of miles in the process. No longer are you locked into one option on both the outbound and return legs of your journey.

Case-in-point: travel Atlanta (ATL) to London Gatwick (LGW) in a SkyChoice BusinessElite seat, and return in a SkySaver Coach seat. Redemption? 150,000 miles under the new formula, as opposed to 250,000 miles under the old one.

Delta’s Bahamas-bound, discount intro airfares

Delta Connection is laying on a couple of new Bahamian destinations from its Atlanta (ATL) megahub, and it’s offering introductory discount airfares to get your attention - $199 each-way to either George Town, Exuma (GGT); or North Eleuthera (ELH).

While June 16 is the start date for nonstop service to each, you have to book and buy by February 12 to land the intro $199 discount airfare. That rate is predicated on a round-trip purchase, and you’ll have to complete the trip by September 29. That’s a nice window of opportunity to travel to these decidedly desirable destinations. Neither taxes nor fees are included in the $199 quote.

Tropical discounts with world’s largest airline

Flights to some of American Airlines’ most exotic and tropical destinations have been reduced in a two-week sale.To take advantage of round-trip deals such as Miami to St Croix from $228, flights between Tampa and San Juan for upwards of $228, Chicago O’Hare to St Croix starting at $378, and Los Angeles to San Juan from $398, fliers must book by February 14.

Travel must take place in the three-day window between Monday, March 27, and Thursday, March 29, and the quoted promotional fares do not include taxes or extras.

Great rates this winter on Air France

Don’t think about waiting until spring if you’re looking for deep discount airfares to Europe. Now’s the time to strike while the weather is cold. That’s when rates are rock bottom. Witness Air France’s array of wintertime deals to Europe. While the discounts are ample, the amount of time you have to take advantage of them is not. You’ll have to book and buy by 11:59 (Eastern Daylight Time) tomorrow (Wednesday, January 31). Then, fly through March 31.

All the discount airfares we’re about to quote are one-way, and pegged to a round-trip purchase. Neither taxes nor fees are included. Tickets have to be purchased at least seven days in advance of departure, and you’ll have to stay over at least one Saturday night.

Winter in Germany? Continental has the deals

While most North Americans travel there during the summer, wintertime in Germany has its own special charms such as the concert halls of Cologne or Romanesque churches sitting in impressionist relief against gauzy skies.The crowds are absent at this time of year too, but not the discount airfares. Continental Airlines will fly you to Germany for as little as $189 one-way.

Restrictions are minimal: do a round-trip buy, purchase at least seven days in advance, and stay over at least one Saturday night. Fly outbound by March 30, and complete the sojourn by May 23.
